Reimbursement by the German National Association of Health Insurance Funds

The German National Association of Health Insurance Funds (GKV-Spitzenverband) has expanded the list of countries where it recognizes the provision of outpatient medical services (a total of 14 recognized countries). Bulgaria was placed on the list on September 20, 2019. Official letter 2019/483 updates the list of outpatient medical services for prevention in the Member States of the European Union, the Contracting Parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Outpatient services for prevention in recognized health resorts within the meaning of Art. 23 para. 2 of the German Social Code (SGB V) can also be provided in Bulgaria. Therefore, the reimbursement of expenses under Art. 13 para. 4 of the Social Code (SGB V) is also possible for outpatient medical prevention services used in Bulgaria.
